Guwahati: The double mutation of the COVID-19 variant has been found in Assam. Recent samples from the Dibrugarh airport of travelers have tested positive for the Indian ‘double mutation’ Covid virus, informed Assam Health Minister.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to share that the same has been found in Assam.

He wrote, “Recent samples from Dibrugarh Airport are positive for B.1.617 strain or the Indian double mutant (L452R and E484Q) strain of SARS-Cov-2. Sarma ended his tweet saying “we need to be very careful.”

These new variants have been categorised as a ‘variant of concern’ or VOCs, for any state or country.

The “double mutant” Indian variant is thought to be responsible for the deadly rise in the number of cases of Coronavirus making it the world’s second worst-hit country surpassing Brazil.
