Imphal: Different organisations based in Assam urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to immediately disqualify 10 Kuki MLAs who “conspired against the government of Manipur with the sole malicious intention of breaking the state” and said that they should not be allowed to contest in any elections in future.

The interference of anti-social elements from Mizoram and malicious comments of the Mizoram chief minister may lead to large-scale violence in future and the entire northeast region, a letter addressed to the Union Minister by the All Assam Manipuri Youth’s Association (AAMYA) in collaboration with Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Maha Sabha, All Assam Manipuri Women Meirapaibi Coordination Committee, All Assam Manipuri Student’s Organisation and many other clubs and associations, warned on Thursday.

The letter also asked the Centre to immediately enforce the National Register Citizen (NRC) of India so as to save and protect the indigenous people of Manipur and drive out the illegal immigrants from the neighbouring countries.

It said the complicated nature of Manipur violence should be investigated properly and perpetrators should be brought to justice to bring immediate peace in Manipur.

The Government of India should look into the large-scale illegal deforestation in Manipur which is causing an imbalance in the ecosystem resulting in landslides, floods, water poisoning pollution etc not only in Manipur but also in the plains of Assam because many Rivers and rivulets flow down to Assam from the hills of Manipur, the letter mentioned.
