Six Kuki militants gunned down in Manipur encounter

Imphal: At least six Kuki militants have been reportedly gunned down after an encounter with Manipur police commandos at Gurukhana near Torbung under Moirang police station in the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday.

Sources said that the incident started at around 11 p.m. on Thursday when a team of police commandos rushed to the spot to inquire about a reported burning down of a few houses by unknown miscreants. 

The shootout continued till 4 a.m. on Friday, it said.

It further said the Kuki militants continued firing towards commandos from at least three directions. The exact number of casualties could not be verified. However, six of the Kuki militants were certainly dead, sources continued.

The police party also took control of a water reserve that was earlier occupied by the Kuki militants.
