Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday approved the ‘Arunachal Pradesh Policy on Psychoactive Substances 2021-26’ to fight the drug menace in the state.

Based on three pillars of supply, demand and harm reduction, the policy aims for a systematic approach to deal with the menace comprehensively and not piecemeal, said a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

“The policy will lead to a synchronized effort in the fight against substance abuse with formation of a State Level Authority headed by the Chief Minister and District Level Committees,” the release said.

These bodies will meet at regular intervals to steer the objectives of the policy, it added.

It may be mentioned here that CM Khandu in his address at the annual conference of SPs and Commandants of AAPBn/IRBn in Tawang (on April 19), had given a clarion call to make Arunachal a drug-free state by 2022.
