Shillong: One more COVID-19 related death in Meghalaya took the fatality count due to the viral infection to 158, even as 155 fresh cases of infection surged the number of active cases to 1,244 on Saturday.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said 69-year-old Niranjan Deb of East Khasi Hills district, suffering from other ailments and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19, at a private-run Woodland Hospital died on Saturday.
Of the new COVID-19 cases detected, Dr. War said East Khasi Hills accounted for 115, 11 in Ri-Bhoi district, nine in West Jaintia Hills district, eight in East Jaintia Hills district, seven in West Garo Hills district, two each in South West Khasi Hills district and West Khasi Hills district two besides one in South West Garo Hills district.
With 895 active COVID-19 cases and 132 deaths, the East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong is the most affected district, followed by Ri-Bhoi district with 124 and West Jaintia Hills district with 115 active cases.
On the other hand, Dr War also informed that 148 persons, that includes 113 patients from East Khasi Hills district, recovered from the infection as on Saturday.
THe senior medical official also informed that out of the 4,47,985 swab samples sent fir testing 4,32,199 tested negative while 15, 786 are confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills district magistrate Isawanda Laloo has further extended night curfew in the entire district from 10 pm to 5 am each day as one of the measures to contain the pandemic.
