Chandel launches National Immunisation Day 2026

The campaign aims to protect children below five years from poliomyelitis and prevent the reintroduction of the wild poliovirus.

Chandel: The National Immunisation Day (NID)/Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme 2026 was launched today at Chandel Christian Community Hall by Reikimdaar Khaling, SDO, Chandel Block, in the presence of Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer, Chandel, and Village Chiefs, Chandel district.

The programme was organised by the District Health Society and the Office of the District Immunisation Officer, Chandel, which aims to protect children below five years of age against poliomyelitis and prevent the reintroduction of the wild poliovirus in the district.

Mention may be made that Chandel Christian village, India was declared polio-free on 27 March, 2014 after achieving the elimination of wild poliovirus. However, global eradication has not yet been achieved as wild poliovirus transmission continues to persist in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Pulse Polio Immunisation was conducted at the booth during the launching programme at Chandel Christian Community Hall, while door-to-door immunisation will be carried out over the next two days. Against the district target of 5,358 children, around 4,300 have been covered today itself in Chandel, Khengjoy and Chakpikarong Blocks.
