Shillong: The Meghalaya Assembly started a first-of-its-kind project to transcribe the proceedings of the House using Artificial Intelligence (AI), an official said on Thursday.
The initiative to revolutionise the reporting process within the Assembly for enhancing efficiency and accuracy was spearheaded by the Chief Reporter of the Assembly Secretariat, Arnica Lyngdoh, in coordination with IT cell computer programmer Dapborlang Marwein.
Marwein informed that the reporter’s module, which is a part of the NeVA (National e-Vidhan Application) project, has been implemented during the ongoing Autumn session of the Assembly.
Assembly Speaker, Thomas Sangma, has expressed his satisfaction with the new AI tool, emphasising its invaluable assistance to the Assembly’s reporters and its significant acceleration of the transcription process for house proceedings.
Expressing satisfaction and pride on the achievement of the new efforts made as part of digitalisation of the Assembly Secretariat and the commendable effort made by the IT cell and the reporter’s branch, Commissioner and Secretary, Dr. Andrew Simons said, “The collaboration between the reporter’s branch and the IT cell has yielded remarkable results.”
He said the implementation of Al is expected to significantly expedite the reporting process, reduce errors and provide legislators with more timely and accurate information.
