Itanagar: West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Karma Leki along with the ADC Kalaktang, Commandant 14 BRTF and heads of various departments of the district on Sunday visited the flood and landslide-affected areas in the Kalaktang sub-division and took stock of the situation, official sources said.
Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall over the past few weeks caused extensive damage to both public and private properties in the area. At Angkaling village, where several houses were damaged due to flash floods, the DC distributed relief items to the affected villagers.
The DC and team also visited the 700 chainage area where a massive search operation is underway by the NDRF personnel for the 8th day in a row for the three persons who went missing after a flash flood swept away their dwelling (a line hotel) on June 18 last.
The OKSRT (Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga) road which connects Balemu, an EAC HQs with the rest of the district has been extensively damaged at numerous locations due to landslides and flash floods.
“Landslides of varying sizes occurred at 63 locations blocking nearly 2.5 km road stretch and formations breached in approximately 1.3 km stretch besides damaging permanent works like, embankments, culverts, retaining walls and drains,” BRO sources had said.
BRO’s Project Vartak has deployed its men and machines who are working tirelessly to open the major road on priority in spite of all challenges.
“Even though the restoration process of the OKSRT road is in progress, the road is still blocked at several points due to washing off of road formation where fresh earth-cutting was done by BRO,” sources added.
