NDRF conducts disaster preparedness exercise at Bishnupur mini secretariat

Bishnupur: A Disaster Familiarization Exercise (FAMEx) was conducted today at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur, by the 12th Battalion, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), in collaboration with the District Administration, Bishnupur, to enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities among government officials.

The exercise was carried out by Team 12-0, Imphal, 12th Battalion, NDRF, Government of India (Ministry of Home Affairs), under the leadership of the Team Commander.

The demonstration covered evacuation procedures, including the use of safe exit routes, identification of safe assembly points, and appropriate response during simulated emergency situations.

Participants including ADM Toijam Opendro, AC to AC S. Gunamani, BOs and DLOs were also sensitized on hazard awareness by identifying high-risk zones and learning safety measures to be adopted during flood, fire, and earthquake.

Medical staffs including doctors from the Chief Medical Office, Bishnupur, actively participated in the exercise by demonstrating basic first aid and other essential emergency medical response techniques.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, emphasized the importance of conducting such mock drills, noting that Manipur falls under a high seismic zone. She said that government offices, educational institutions, and public places should be well acquainted with basic rescue and emergency response measures so that people can respond promptly and effectively during disasters, thereby minimizing loss of life and property.

The DC expressed her appreciation to the NDRF team for conducting the practical demonstration and urged all participants to follow the safety guidelines shared during the exercise.

Pooja Elangbam, referring to the ongoing district-wide awareness campaign, she noted that similar Disaster Familiarization Exercises have also been conducted in several schools and colleges across the district and urged everyone to remain alert and prepared at all times.

It may be mentioned that the Disaster Familiarization Exercise (FAMEx) has been conducted in schools and colleges across Bishnupur district since the 22nd of this month.
