Shillong: Meghalaya on Wednesday reported a single-day spike of 166 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of active cases to 701.
The state has so far registered 85, 629 confirmed COVID-19 cases, health officials said.
The State also reported reported 43 more cases of recovery, pushing the number of recovered cases to 83,439, while the fatality count is 1,489 with no COVID related death recorded on Wednesday.
The daily positivity rate has jumped to .81 per cent from 0.67 per cent on Tuesday, while the recovery rate stands at 97.44 per cent and fatality rate at 1.74 per cent.
The government has further tightened the COVID-19 protocols to prevent the spread of this virulent infection in the State. It has also issued new standard operating procedure (SOPs), making it mandatory for persons entering the state to produce a negative RT-PCR report or undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test at the entry points, amid concern over the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the new COVID-19 cases detected included 143 in the most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong with the number of active cases in the district soaring up to 582 and death toll to 1012.
Among those infected with the COVID-19 virus included 14 health workers and 20 armed forces, he said.
War said eight more new cases were detected in West Garo Hills district and Ri-Bhoi district pushing the number of active cases in both district to 59 and 29 respectively.
While three new COVID-19 cases increased the number of active cases to 13 in West Jaintia Hills district, two more cases added up the number of active cases to six in West Khasi Hills district and one case in South West Khasi Hills district added the number of active cases to five, while East Garo Hills district has recorded one new case on Wednesday, he medical officer said.
South West Garo Hills district had no active COVID-19 case.
Meanwhile, of the 12,78,196 persons tested for COVID-19 in the state till Wednesday afternoon, 11,92,567 persons were tested negative for the virus, the state COVID dashboard reflected.
On the other hand, 32,103 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 29,196 have been administered with the second dose, 96,980front-line workers have got the first jab and 84,566 have taken the second shot, 11,32,615 1persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 7,89,243 have been vaccinated with the second dose in the state as on date, as per the National Health Mission record.
Meanwhile, 2,156 health care workers and 2,179 frontline workers, while 106 citizens have received have received the precaution dose as on Friday, the health data revealed.
