Guwahati: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the iconic Kamakhya temple situated at Nilachal Hills in Guwahati to offer her prayers to Goddess Kamakhya on Tuesday.
The Trinamool supremo is expected to reach Borjhar airport around 1 pm and will directly head to the temple.
“It’s completely a private visit. She will visit the temple to offer puja and will head back to Kolkata in the evening,” a senior Trinamool leader from Assam said.
This is Mamata’s first visit to any state of northeast India after her party made inroads in Meghalaya and Assam poaching senior Congress leaders.
Notably, 11 Congress legislators led by the former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had recently joined Trinamool Congress.
