Meghalaya recorded 569 new COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths

Shillong: Meghalaya on Monday recorded 569 new COVID-19 positive cases that added up to 5084 active cases, eight deaths due to the viral infection increasing the fatality figure to 1,031 and 485 more recoveries, surging the number of recoveries to 55,648 as the State has so far registered 61,763 confirmed cases.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said all the eight COVID-19 related deaths recorded on Monday were in the East Khasi Hills district.
Out of the 569 new COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday, the senior medical official said 173 were in East Khasi Hills district, 85 in Ri-Bhoi district, 80 in West Jaintia Hills district, 74 in West Garo Hills district, 72 in South West Khasi Hills district, 52 in West Khasi Hills district, nine in East Jaintia Hills district, eight in South West Garo Hills district, six each in South Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district and four cases in East Garo Hills district.
The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most COVID-19 affected district with 1807 active positive cases and 743 deaths followed by West Garo Hills district with 919 active cases and 54 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 630 active cases and 42 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 550 active cases and 97 deaths, West Khasi Hills district with 335 active cases and 25 deaths and South West Khasi Hills district with 326 active cases and 10 deaths, while the five other districts had less than 200 active cases each as per the latest count.
Till today, 8,16, 171 persons underwent Covid-19 test in the State with 7,54,408 of them testing negative for the virus, the latest data issued by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya reflected. As on date, 31,658 health care workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 21,836 were administered with the second dose, 97,176 front-line workers got the first jab and 34,509 took the second shot, while 70,746 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 1,08,042 citizens have been fully vaccinated across the State, official data revealed.
Meanwhile, district administrations have made it mandatory for all commercial establishments, vendors and drivers of commercial vehicles to display their vaccination status against COVID-19 in order to enable the public to make informed choices.
