Lucknow: With the highest testing, highest recovery rate and lowest test positivity rate, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a clear winner in combating coronavirus as the state’s Covid condition shows a healthier picture in comparison to all other states, the state government said on Wednesday.

UP juxtaposed with major other states with lesser populations reinforces the perception of how the most populous state has managed to do better in containment of the virus as well as in mitigating the adverse economic effects with Partial Corona Curfews aimed at saving both ‘Lives and Livelihood’.

The state’s Covid-19 response has turned out superior as it has done exceptionally well in bringing down the transmission levels by restricting the fresh cases below 100 for over 11 days now.

Out of the 2,46,186 samples tested in the last 24 hours, merely 55 tested positive in the most populous state, the government said in a statement.

In a sharp contrast to UP, states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala that opted for strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of coronavirus have miserably failed to register any decline in the number of fresh infections and as a result have been reporting 2,000-10,000 Covid cases regularly, which is even more than the Active Caseload in Uttar Pradesh.

With a density of 690 persons per square km, Uttar Pradesh, in the entire country, also appeared as the first state to have tested more than 3 lakh samples a day and more than 6.30 crore samples for Covid-19 so far. The testing was particularly ramped up to reach the rural pockets of the state.

The difference between the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala has been extremely stark.

UP has successfully maintained its TPR — the number of positive cases against the total tests done — at 0.02 percent, the lowest in the country, however, the Test Positivity Rate has been at a high of 11.08 percent in Kerala.

As many as seven districts (Aligarh, Balrampur, Etah, Hathras ,Lalitpur, Mahoba and Shravasti) have added to Uttar Pradesh’s success in crushing the resurgent coronavirus.

In what comes as a big relief, none of the 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh reported fresh cases of coronavirus infection in double-digits.

Indicating signs that the dangerous virus is receding from the state, as many as 45 districts reported no case of covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours, whereas over 30 districts reported new cases in just single-digits.

In another significant development, in over 40 districts the active Covid cases have dipped to single digits, whereas the patients in home isolation have also reduced to 936.

The Active Caseload in UP now stands at 1036, whereas states like Kerala and Maharashtra account for a heavy active caseload of 1,21,708 and 96,375 respectively.
