Agartala: As many as 59 out of 60 legislators including one from opposition Congress and 15 from CPI-M of Tripura have exercised their franchise on Monday for electing 16th President of India in the assembly lobby, said Speaker Ratan Chakraborty.
The ruling BJP’s ally in the government IPFT MLA who has resigned from the party and joined royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman Brishaketu Debbarma abstained from voting. Two one each from ruling BJP and opposition CPI-M – Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia and Sudhan Das casted their vote in Parliament Bhawan in New Delhi.
Two Loksabha MPs of Tripura Pratima Bhoumik and Rebati Tripura have also voted in the Parliament. However, the lone Rajya Sabha member couldn’t vote this time, as the Rajya Sabha MP and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had resigned early this month after winning assembly by-poll and took oath as an MLA in the assembly.
According to a report, ruling BJP and IPFT MLAs have put their preference to NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu while CPI-M and Congress MLAs preferred to opposition’s nominee Yashwant Sinha. The vote value of each of the MLAs in Tripura is 26.
