All Manipur MLAs cast vote to elect new President of India

Chief Minister N Biren was among those who voted early as the voting began under tight security. All the ministers and members of the coalition government also exercised their franchise.

Imphal: Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly exercised their franchise for the Presidential election at the Assembly complex on Monday. 

Chief Minister N Biren was among those who voted early as the voting began under tight security. All the ministers and members of the coalition government also exercised their franchise.

Former Chief Minister O Ibobi, Congress President, K Meghachandra and other Congress MLAs also exercised their franchise.  The Congress party had decided to support Yashwant Sinha.

NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu had toured the state to seek a vote on July 5 last.

Manipur has two Lok Sabha MPs, one of BJP and another of Naga people’s Front (NPF) an ally of the BJP. The lone Rajya Sabha MP is also from BJP while Mary Kom from Manipur is a nominee of the President.

The Biren-led government has 32 BJP MLAs and five NPF members. Other parties which have extended support were NPP with seven MLAs, JDU with six and KPA with two and three Independents. 

The vote value of one MLA is 18 while the vote value of one MP is 708 for Manipur.
