Thoubal: Altogether 46 candidates from different political parties and Independent candidates will try their luck in the 10 Assembly constituencies of Thoubal & Kakching Districts. Non of the candidate who filed for nomination withdrew their candidature till the last hour of withdrawal period.
In 10 Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal & Kakching, 32 – Wangkhem has the highest number of candidates with 8 candidates from different political parties contesting. While Wangjing Tentha,Khangabok and Sugnoo ACs have lowest number of candidates .
In these three Constituencies three candidates each are contesting. Lilong, Wabagai and Hiyanglam Constituencies have five candidates each contesting the election while Thoubal and Heirok Constituencies have four candidates each. Six candidates are contesting for Kakching AC.
Prominent leaders who are in the fray for the 10 Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal & Kakching include former Chief Minister and CLP leader O. Ibobi Singh of INC, from Thoubal AC. Sitting MLA’s K. Meghachandra, O. Surjakumar & Md.Fajur Rahim are contesting as INC candidate. Former Education Minister Th.Radheshyam, MLA Y. Antas, P. Brojen are contesting as BJP candidates.
The election for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held in two phases on 28th February and 5th March to elect the 60-member state Assembly. The results will be out on 10 March.
