Record paddy procurement by Bihar

Terming it a major achievement of the state, he said that the requirement of the rice for public distribution system would now be fulfilled within the state. The CM said that consumption of boiled rice was more in Bihar and keeping it in mind he instructed to increase the boil rice mills across the state.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday that a record procurement of 44 lakh 91 thousand metric ton paddy was done from 6 lakh 43 thousand farmers who were being paid Rs 8800 crore for their paddy. While reviewing the paddy procurement scenario of Bihar, the Chief Minister said that the rural economy would get a boost with the maximum procurement.

Terming it a major achievement of the state, he said that the requirement of the rice for public distribution system would now be fulfilled within the state. The CM said that consumption of boiled rice was more in Bihar and keeping it in mind he instructed to increase the boil rice mills across the state.

He also asked to make a district-wise assessment for wheat procurement and fix the target accordingly. During the review meeting, Cooperative secretary Vandana Preyasi apprised the Chief Minister about the detail of procurements and said that the procurement was made through 7104 committees. She said that 85% of the farmers have already received their payments and the payment to the rest of the farmers would soon be made.
