30 -yrs old Tripura nurse found hanging in a Chennai hospital

Rima was divorced some time back and returned to her father, the family informed the police.

Agartala: The parents of 30 -yrs old Rima Maya Begum of Sepahijala district in Tripura who was found hanging in a private hospital in Jayanagar, Chennai on Wednesday demanded the state government bring her body back home.

Rima, a mother of two children in Putia village of Sonamura has been working as a nurse in a hospital for over a year. She was married to one Shahjahan Miah of the same locality 12 years ago and has a son and a daughter. Rima was divorced some time back and returned to her father, the family informed the police.

Rima had moved to Chennai after getting a job last year, as she fell into a financial crisis with her aged parents and two children due to the Covid pandemic for the last two years. Recently, Rima took her younger sister to Chennai and engaged her in a job.

Abu Taher, father of the deceased said, “On Wednesday, I got a call from the hospital where Rima worked that she had committed suicide by hanging herself on a balcony of the hospital during duty.

I have approached the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the police to bring Rima’s body home, which is at the hospital mortuary under K-11 CMD Police Station, Chennai, and institute an inquiry to ascertain the reason for her death.”
