Shillong: Two unidentified armed kidnappers were gunned down in an exchange of fire with Meghalaya police and rescued two hostage abducted persons including a child from Assam’s Goalpara district on Thursday in State’s West Garo Hills district, police said.
A police official said the exchange of fire occurred at Dibru Hills Forest Reserve near Bamandanga/Gaptuli.
“However, the armed miscreants on seeing the Police team fired at them which led the police team to retaliated in self defence. The exchange of fire continued for approximately 2-3 minutes,” Vivekanand Singh Rathore, the district police chief of West Garo Hills, said.
One AK series rifle and one pistol, one camouflage bag with 23 live rounds of 7.62 mm and nine live rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 19 empty 9 mm and 14 empty 7.62 mm cartridges were recovered from the site of exchange of fire, Rathore said.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya police have registered a case.
