USTM signs MoU with two universities of Tripura

Agartala: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has signed two separate agreements of academic exchange with Tripura (Central) University and state-run MBB University of Agartala, as part of its academic outreach program, said Chancellor of USTM Mahbubul Hoque here on Saturday.

He said USTM would go for faculty exchange and students’ interaction with both the universities of Tripura and to pursue the vision it has launched Mission Education Outreach -Tripura Chapter. Prof G D Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM signed MoU with his counterparts of Tripura University Ganga Prasad Prasain and MBB University Prof Satyadeo Poddar.

Hoque highlighted that students from northeastern states including about 300 from Tripura along with other parts of the country have been studying in USTM but, the university aimed to expand its academic excellence in Tripura, which has been offering the most modern courses with the blends
of conventional subjects at minimum cost to retain the talent of the region for holistic development of the Northeast.

“USTM has targeted to become one of the world-class universities by 2030, it has signed MoU with top leading academic and research institutions and universities. To guide the all-India civil service aspirants, we have designed a unique curriculum of a three-year degree program and our first batch would appear for the exam next year, which is the first time in the region,” Hoque pointed out.

Vice Chancellor of USTM Prof Sharma added, “We are giving this opportunity to those students who have potential but cannot go to other universities for higher education due to financial and other factors. Under the educational outreach of USTM more than 20 percent students of the total intake
of the university are now availing free education.”
