Union Minister Chandrasekhar inaugurates NIELIT centres

Apart from physically inaugurating NIELIT Centre, Churachandpur, the Union MoS also virtually inaugurated NIELIT Centres Kokrajhar and Tezpur (Assam); and upgraded two existing Centres -- Imphal (Manipur) and Aizawl (Mizoram).

Churachandpur: Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar Thursday inaugurated three NIELIT Centres of North East India from Churachandpur, and upgraded two existing centres.

Apart from physically inaugurating NIELIT Centre, Churachandpur, the Union MoS also virtually inaugurated NIELIT Centres Kokrajhar and Tezpur (Assam); and upgraded two existing Centres — Imphal (Manipur) and Aizawl (Mizoram).

Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev Chandrasekhar assured that the Central government in collaboration with the States will make the NIELIT centres as job creation centres. “These will not be just training centres in the coming years, these are centres to skill the youth and get the youth into the runway of opportunity and jobs,” he said.

He said that the world today is looking for trained manpower from anywhere it can get and India is poised to become the leading human resource provider to the world’s technology requirement. The technology supply chain of the world sees India as global provider of services and products. India is going to have the opportunity of providing more and more trained and skilled youngsters not just in basic computer skill but also in various other fields including electronic manufacturing and maintenance and repair.  

Chandrasekhar also said that the Government of India wishes more companies to start coming into NE region on the back of NIELIT centres and start hiring directly from there. “We would like them to start investing in the NE and create centres of development, maintenance and small manufacturing etc,” he remarked.

He further said that the Ministry has implemented some programmes relating to job creation  successfully including BPOs, and in that line, is looking to create jobs in the ITs and electronics manufacturing industry.

The Union Minister added that over 5 lacs new jobs have been created in information technology and over 3 lacs jobs in electronic manufacturing  alone this year in India.

The programme at Tuibong, Churachandpur was attended amongst others by M. Rameshwar Singh, MLA; Dr Jaideep Kumar Mishra, DG, NIELIT; Pawan Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur; Th. Prammeshwar Singh, Executive Director, NIELIT Imphal; RK Bigensana, Jt Director, NIELIT, CCpur and other Government officials.

The Minister also interacted with students from all of the five centres today through virtual conference.

The NIELIT Centre, Churachandpur is the second centre of NIELIT in Manipur in a sprawling campus of about 4.13 acres of land provided by the Government of Manipur. It has 8 laboratories, two class rooms and has annual training capacities of 600 students.

Prior to the Churachandpur’s programme, the Union Minister visited Rooman Tech PMKK, Imphal West.
