Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan visits Kohima

Dr. Vardhan and his wife, who are on a visit to Nagaland, was accorded reception in their honour today at Kohima Village Council Hall, near the state capital.

Kohima: Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Science & Technology and Earth Science, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is seriously working with a complete focus for the upliftment of the poor people and to develop the North Eastern region at par with other developed states of India.

Dr. Vardhan and his wife, who are on a visit to Nagaland, was accorded reception in their honour today at Kohima Village Council Hall, near the state capital. He said many new schemes which are required for the development of the region has been taken up and the completed. Many more such new projects are in the pipeline which will be taken up as per the requirements of the region for the benefit of the people. He said it is an honour and privilege for him to visit the second biggest village in Asia with the beautiful landscape, favourable climate and to interact with Naga people.

The Union Minister and his Lady wife also visited the ongoing Medical college construction in the Kohima village. Stating the main purpose of the site visit of the Kohima Medical College is to review the works being carried out. He said that though there has been delay in the past, he is keen to take up the project at a good pace, post COVID-19. Also present at the site were Nagaland Minister for Health & Family Welfare Pangnyu Phom and Principal Director for Health & Family Welfare Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru.

Addressing the media, Dr. Vardhan stated that the project could not be taken up on time and has been delayed because of land ownership issues, which has now been resolved at the village level. Post COVID-19, things are progressing and he informed that the year end of 2021 has been set up as the proposed date for the completion of the project, and also few things to be completed by the middle of 2022. On the timely completion of the project, Dr. Harsh Vardhan informed that the Minister for Health & Family Welfare and the Centre will be coordinating with the State Government to check the progress of the project. He said that in this year’s Budget, there is huge increase in the healthcare spending, in systems like availability of potable water, sanitation, nutritional issues which will ensure in providing good healthcare services. Modi is emphasising to strengthen the infrastructure in the North East states including Nagaland, not just in the health sector but in all the other sectors like connectivity etc. and to make sure that the North East states progress in all fronts like the rest of the country. He also visited the Kohima War Cemetery today.
