ULFA (I) was behind abduction of three ONGC employees: Assam police

The Assam Police, in coordination with the Nagaland Police, are continuing their search operation to trace the three ONGC employees who were abducted from Sivasagar early on Wednesday.

Guwahati: Assam Police has confirmed that banned ULFA (I) was behind the abduction of three ONGC employees.

Special Director General of Police, Law and Order, G.P. Singh, who is camping at Lakuwa in Sivasagar district since Wednesday to supervise the operation to locate the hostages, said that the ULFA (I) militants kidnapped the three employees of the ONGC.

“Investigation is going on. Around seven people have been detained in connection with the abduction and they are being questioned,” Singh told local reporters.

The Assam Police, in coordination with the Nagaland Police, are continuing their search operation to trace the three ONGC employees who were abducted from Sivasagar early on Wednesday.

The Assam Rifles, which is guarding the India-Myanmar border, has been asked to intensify their vigil along the forested borders.

The three kidnapped employees are Mohini Mohan Gogoi, a junior technician, production, from Sivasagar district, Alokesh Saikia, an assistant junior engineer, production, from Jorhat district and Ritul Saikia, also an assistant junior engineer, production, from Golaghat district.

An ONGC statement said that the abduction took place from a rig site of the company in Lakuwa field of Sivasagar, and the abducted employees were taken away in an ambulance vehicle belonging to ONGC.

A total of 14 people have been detained by Sivasagar Police in connection with the kidnapping of 3 ONGC employees.

Meanwhile, nine people were detained by Assam Police from various places since Wednesday evening for questioning.
