Arunachal govt to give free vaccine to all in 18-44 age group

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government on Friday decided to administer the Covid-19 vaccine free of cost to all in the 18-44 age group.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu here on the Covid-19 situation.

The Cabinet approved to place an order of four lakh Covishield vaccines and to allot an additional amount of Rs 65 crore to vaccinate the persons between the age group of 18-44.This budget allocation will be above the budget allocation for the health department, a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

The Cabinet also directed the health department to facilitate registration of all people above 18 years in the state, it said.

Meanwhile, the CM in a tweet wrote,”In the wake of the second wave of Covid-19, all necessary measures are being put in place to control its spread. A Cabinet meeting convened today to boost the preparedness level in tackling the Coronavirus. Health has been our focus always and will continue to remain so.”

The Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre had on April 19 announced that everyone above 18 years will be eligible to get Covid vaccine from May 1 next.

Arunachal Pradesh has recorded 17,296 Covid-19 cases so far, of which, 56 succumbed to the virus and 16,860 recovered. Active cases stood at 380.
