Agartala: A middle-aged has been given life imprisonment by a court in Tripura for killing his wife.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of West Tripura District on Saturday awarded the sentence to the accused Ratan Debnath for killing his wife in April 2021 for disobeying his direction.
Public prosecutor Biswajit Deb said the court had deposed 26 witnesses and based on the testimony and circumstantial evidence, sentenced Debnath under Section 302 (order) of IPC and a further two years imprisonment under Section 324 of IPC.
Police investigation revealed, the convicted Ratan Debnath, a resident of Tulakona village in West District had opposed his wife Pratima Debnath and her daughter-in-law to going to the neighboring house for the bath but they disobeyed the prohibition. After bathing, the daughter-in-law went to another room while the deceased Pratima Debnath was assaulted by an axe.
Hearing the screaming of Pratima, other family members rushed to the spot and found her lying in a pool of blood and Ratan was absconding. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where Pratima was declared dead. Meantime, Ratan was spotted cleaning the axe by his younger brother and he confessed to the crime.
