Agartala: The opposition CPI-M accused Superintendent of Police (West Tripura) B Jagadish Reddy of helping Rashtriya Swang Sevak Sangh (RSS), the parent body of ruling BJP in organising training to it’s cadres and demanded to remove him from all election related duty during the ongoing by-poll and prosecute him against his partisan role.

CPI-M State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury in a letter to Chief Secretary Kumar Alok on Friday alleged that in a message SP Reddy directed SP (Traffic) to detail a women constable Panchami Nath to attend a self-defense training programme at RSS state headquarters here.

“The regimented women wing of BJP – Sastra Sevika Samity had organised the training to 60 selected females at Rastriya Seva Dham on May 24 last. The SP deputed the constable along with Sub-inspector Emily Nandy at RSS headquarters where Hindu jingoists were given violent training,” Chowdhury alleged.

He further questioned how an Indian Police Service officer allowed the police women to take part in such activities and added to the letter, “By the act he has exposed his biases towards ruling BJP and also sponsors it’s violent activities which is unbecoming to hold the important office of SP during the election process. Therefore, I request you to immediately remove him from all election related duties and prosecute him under appropriate law.”

A senior officer of the state police justified the act of Reddy and said, “Under women empowerment mission of the government, police are mandated to train the women folks including school and college girls of self-defense. There are several instances where police sent their trainers to impart training to many organisations and NGOs. But the issue of RSS association is not considered here.”
