Agartala: Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) administration has issued a fresh notification directing the officials to accept public communication to any authority in Kokborok (the dialect spoken by the indigenous community) language.
The Additional Chief Executive Officer in a notification stated that in order to popularise as an official language and better communication between ADC administration and the general public, any communication written in Kokborok must be entertained in all the offices under ADC.
Besides, English and Bengali, Kokborok was notified as an official language of Tripura on January 19, 1979 by the then left front government, yet it has not been popularised at official level both in the state government and in the ADC. The 25 years rule in the state and ADC left front didn’t initiate any step to must Kokborok at administration level like English and Bengali.
This is the first major decision of royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman led TIPRA a month after taking oath in ADC. Appreciating the ADC administration Pradyot said,” In 100 days we have ensured that Kokborok can be used for official communication for the Government in the council. We are trying our best to change a system that has been insensitive to our sentiment. The first step was to write the Council Bhawan in Kokborok. This is the second step and more will follow.”
