Agartala: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday set an instance of unique political culture after the death of Tripura CPI-M state secretary and veteran communist leader Goutam Das.
He was infected with Covid-19 later in the last month and a few days ago he had been shifted to Kolkata where he passed away yesterday.
Deb was not only restrained himself by sending the condolence message to the bereaved family, but Chief Minister has also been in touch with the airport authority of India regarding the transportation of Das’s body to Agartala when got to know that he died in post-Covid complications, although neither the CPI-M party nor Das’s family was aware of it.
After the body arrived at home, Chief Minister was the first person who reached Das’s house and paid floral tribute to him and shared his grief with the family. Deb assured the only Daughter of Goutam Das that his government will always stand with her and the family.
“Despite political rivalry and ideological differences, the multi-dimensional life of Goutam Das has always inspired me. Besides being the chief of CPI-M in the state, Das was a journalist, writer and a tall cultural personality well known to cross-sections of the society beyond political affiliations. I had very little interaction with Goutamda but whenever I met him, I found him to have a truly different personality,” Deb told media in Das’s house in presence of his family and top leaders of CPI-M.
At a time when CPI-M has been accusing ruling BJP and Chief Minister personally of unabated political violence and attack on oppositions and media, the gesture of Tripura Chief Minister bestowed upon Goutam Das and his family has made all the political parties and leaders of BJP even spellbound.
Earlier, before swearing-in as Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb had gone to the CPI-M party office to invite their leaders and MLAs for the oath-taking ceremony. He was seen seeking blessings touching the feet of Manik Sarkar. Even in the assembly on several occasions, Deb has shown his political gesture to Manik Sarkar and other senior leaders of the opposition.
Despite several complaints against Biplab Kumar Deb’s rule, he evolved a new political culture in Tripura. Deb’s address in political gatherings and mass rallies and his interaction with the opposition leaders and senior politicians have been found completely different.
