Churachandpur: The Churachandpur district administration today launched a major search and rescue operation with the assistance of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) following the drowning of Miss Lamboikim, daughter of Khupkholun Tuboi of K. Khomunnom village and a Class VIII student at Radhakrishnan Foundation School, Tuibong.
In response to the requisition made by the Sub‑Divisional Officer, Tuibong, and endorsed by the Deputy Commissioner/DDMA Churachandpur, the SDRF was deployed from Imphal. The team, led by Team Leader Havildar Riyajuddin, arrived at the site on Friday and immediately commenced operations from Zero Point, the location where the victim was last seen being swept away.
The SDRF team has deployed inflatable boats and specialized rescue equipment to intensify the search. Assuring the bereaved family and the public of the team’s commitment, Hav. Riyajuddin stated, “We will be here to do the needful and continue the search operation till the body is recovered.”
It may be recalled that the tragic incident took place on June 11 at Laijon Veng in Tuibong Sub‑Division, where the young girl was swept away by strong currents following incessant rainfall. Since the day of the incident, local youth clubs, civil society organizations, philanthropic groups, and concerned individuals have been tirelessly engaged in search efforts. However, despite their continuous attempts, the body could not be recovered owing to adverse weather conditions and the absence of adequate rescue infrastructure.
