Imphal: In a continuous effort to foster social welfare and advocate for youth welfare, Assam Rifles felicitated two exceptional Manipuri sportswomen of the Indian Women’s National Football Team following their historic triumph at the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026. The special ceremony celebrated India lifting the sub-continental crown for a record-extending sixth time, acknowledging their dedication, perseverance and excellence which brought immense pride to Manipur and the nation.
The grand event honoured international goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu Elangbam and dynamic midfielder Priyangka Devi Naorem, both hailing from Keirak in Kakching District, Manipur. Elangbam, widely renowned as one of India’s premier custodians, was officially adjudged the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament after conceding just a single goal throughout the campaign, adding to her historic 2024 professional league stint in Australia. Alongside her, Naorem, who made her senior international debut on 06 April 2022 after top-scoring in the 2021 Under-19 edition, anchored the midfield outstandingly by providing a vital assist and netting two crucial goals during the tournament.
This prestigious recognition highlights the unwavering commitment of Assam Rifles to nurturing vibrant youth and upcoming local talents in Manipur.
