Imphal: At a time when Kuki civil bodies stepped up their campaign against the deployment of state security forces at the border town of Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, the same force arrested at least three illegal Myanmar nationals from the same town on Sunday morning.

Notably, the trio was reportedly pulled up with certain furniture and electrical items they stole from the houses belonging to the Meitei community which were set ablaze by suspected Kuki miscreants in the ongoing ethnic strife.

According to a police report, a team of Manipur police special commandos, during its foot patrol at the border town, arrested the three around 9 a.m.

On verification, it came to light that they are Myanmar nationals, and have been identified as  Khamkhenthang Guite (25) of Namphalong Sawbua II,  Aung Mae (30) of Tamu Sawbua X and 3 Aung Aung (25) of Tamu Sawbua XI.

Later, they were handed over to Moreh police station for further thorough verification in custody.

Since the unprecedented ethnic conflict unfolded in Manipur on May 3, a large number of Meiteis had to flee their original homesteads for safer climes after they came under attack and their houses were torched by the miscreants.

The affected Meiteis are currently putting up at various relief camps opened by the government in the valley districts.

Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi Moreh, an influential Kuki civil organisation of Moreh as well as the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) had been staging protests and demonstrations after the deployment of state forces before the final settlement of the ongoing ethnic conflict.
