Three-month-old among two Covid deaths in Meghalaya

Shillong:  A three-month-old baby girl, and a 33-year-old man died of coronavirus-related complications in Meghalaya on Thursday, taking the number of fatalities to 1,597, health officials said.

The State’s cumulative count also climbed up to 94,572 with 61 people testing positive for Covid19, taking the number of people currently infected to the virus in the State to 357, while 20 more people have also recovered from the viral infection, mounting the number of recoveries to 92,578 on Thursday, as per government statistics.

Health officials said that the three-month-old baby girl, who had tested positive for Covid19 and suffering from congenital heart disease, while the 33-year-old man, who was suffering from chronic kidney disease, tested positive for the viral infection at North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) hospital here.

The last Covid19 death in the State was reported on July 8, last.

Of the total new cases registered during the last 24 hours on Thursday, West Garo Hills, including Tura reported the maximum number of 36 new cases with the district accounting for 200 active cases, the highest in the state, 12 in East Khasi Hills district, five in Ri-Bhoi district, three in South Garo Hills district, two each in West Khasi Hills district and East Garo Hills district and one in East Jaintia Hills district.

The number of active Covid19 cases also increased to 105 in the East Khasi Hills district, which includes the state capital Shillong.

Forty-eight Covid19 infected patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the state, the health official said, adding that two out of the total 12 districts had no active Covid19 cases as on date.

Meanwhile, according to the National Health Mission record, 32,139 health care workers have received the first dose of the Covid19 vaccine, 29,512 have been administered with the second dose and 10,144 have taken the third precaution dose.

While 97,029 front-line workers have been vaccinated with the first dose 8,5,727 have received the second dose and 29,809 have got the precaution shot, even as 13,03,304 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 9,52,108 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose and 11,551 citizens have taken the booster dose across the state till Thursday.
