Imphal: Congress workers led by Manipur Congress President K Meghachandra staged a protest against the summoning of Congress President Sonia Gandhi by ED.

Police and Congress workers had a standoff as Congress workers shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP. Large numbers of Police dragged Congress workers on the street and forced them inside Congress Bhawan.

Meghachandra said repeated summoning of Congress leaders by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is opposed by the Congress party.

He alleged that the ED has been used as a weapon by the BJP government to harass people and take political opportunities.

The National Herald case could not be taken up under Money Laundering Act and Rs 90 crore loan was given to pay salaries for journalists and staff of the National Herald.

Most of the money was spent to help the staff of the paper which played an important role in the freedom struggle, he added.

He also condemned the assault of Congress workers including women by police personnel.
