Imphal: Education Minister S Rajen Singh has said that indigenous sport of Thang-Ta has become a recognized sport of the country and will soon become an international sport of the world.
Minister Rajen was speaking as chief guest at the reception of the 26th National Thang-Ta Championship 2021 organised by Kanglei Thang Ta Sindam Sang, Maklang, Imphal West.
He said that Manipur is known as the powerhouse of sports in the country. Manipur has produced legendary sportspersons like MC Mary Kom. A good number of sportspersons have won national awards.
Minister Rajen Said that it is with the help of art forms like the Thang-ta that Manipuris could put an end to the seven years of devastation (Chahi Taret Khuntakpa) . There are Manipuri players in every sports event of India. Forming an Indian without a Manipuri player is unimaginable, he added.
Minister also maintained that along with sports the Government has initiated many schemes to improve the education sector. He said that Government has launched National Education Policy, NEP-2020 with a vision to build a stronger nation.
The indigenous form of Martial Arts of the State have also been preferred by the rest of the Country. He also appealed to cooperate with the Government on the initiatives taken up to promote the indigenous games of Manipur. Polo is one such game Manipuris can be proud of as it has its origin in Manipur.
The reception ceremony was also attended Technical Director, World Thang–Ta Federation, H Premkumar Singh and ZP Member Awang Khunou ZP, M Pramo Devi, as president and guest of respectively.
