Ten COVID-19 related deaths, 387 cases in Meghalaya

Shillong: Meghalaya on Monday recorded ten COVID-19 related deaths mounting the fatality figure to 955 and 387 new cases of infection taking the number of active cases up to 4,033.

The State also reported 323 more recoveries from the viral disease surged the number of recovered cases to 52,787 on Monday in the State, which has registered 57,775 confirmed cases so far.

Director Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said the COVID-19 related deaths recorded Monday included eight in East Khasi Hills district and one each in West Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

Of the new COVID-19 cases detected on Monday, the senior medical official said 142 were in East Khasi Hills district, 96 in West Garo Hills district, 58 in Ri-Bhoi district, 41 in West Jaintia Hills district, 23 cases in West Khasi Hills district, eight in East Jaintia Hills district, six new cases each in North Garo Hills district and South West Garo Hills district and four in South West Khasi Hills district.

With 1,194 active COVID-19 cases, the East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most affected district followed by West Garo Hills district with 914 active cases, Ri-Bhoi district with 585 active cases and West Jaintia Hills district with 476 active cases, while the seven other districts have less than 200 active cases each.

Till Monday, 7,80,696 persons were tested for COVID-19 across the state, of whom 7,22,921 persons were tested negative for the virus, as per data released by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya.

On the other hand, 31,484 health care workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 20,884 received the second dose, 97,073 front-line workers got the first jab and 29,108 took the second shot, while 6.49,179 persons from among the general public were

inoculated with the first dose and 69,893 citizens were fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state as on date, as per official information.
