Tamenglong: In a spirited effort to promote community cleanliness, the people of Tamenglong took part in a marathon race under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. The race began at Haipou Jadonang Park, proceeded to the 5th Manipur Rifles Gate, and then returned to the starting point, emphasizing the importance of environmental awareness and cleanliness.
The event was flagged off by Dr. L. Angshim Dangshawa, Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong, along with Superintendent of Police Lanmiyo Luikham, CEO and Swachhata Hi Seva Nodal Officer Kachamthai, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Majachunglu Gangmei, Additional SP Josiah T. Pamei, and other distinguished officials, all lending their support to the campaign.
Participants included runners from diverse backgrounds—students, CSO leaders, and civilians—who not only embraced fitness but also championed the cause of a cleaner environment. In the men’s category, Kenedy Kamei from Sangrungpang village took first place, followed by Buanthanlung Gonmei from Namkaolong village in second, and Ganglan Gangmei from Thiulon village in third. In the women’s category, Ganchuiliu Gangmei, Kajatliu Gangmei, Lungsingthuanliu Panmei, and Martha Panmei secured first, second, third, and fourth places, respectively. All winners were awarded certificates in recognition of their achievements and contributions.
As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, a “Waste to Art” event will be held on September 23, encouraging creativity in recycling and repurposing waste materials. This initiative aims to inspire the community to think innovatively about waste and its artistic potential. The District Administration of Tamenglong invites all residents to participate.
