Agartala: The ruling BJP has named Mayor for Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and chairman of 19 other Municipal bodies and Nagar Panchayats, who will be administered the oath of office by respective District Magistrates on Dec 8 and 9.
As expected, former Chairman of Agartala Municipal Council and incumbent Chairman of Tripura Road Transport Corporation Dipak Majumder would be administered oath tomorrow at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan by District Magistrate of West Tripura while swearing-in ceremony of 19 other urban bodies would be on Dec 9 at the respective districts.
The ruling BJP has won all 20 urban local bodies and 15 of them including AMC don’t have any opposition members in the council. BJP state president Dr Manik Saha said no central leader would take part in the swearing-in ceremony, however, central minister Pratima Bhoumik, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, all cabinet ministers and senior leaders would join.
“We were looking to organise the swearing-in ceremony in a bigger way but the plan didn’t work following the weather conditions. However, BJP Chief J P Nadda and other central leaders are expected to arrive in the state later on to celebrate the massive victory of the party,” he told the media.
Dr Saha pointed out that BJP secured a striking victory in 329 out of 334 seats in the recently held urban body polls, which has been celebrated by the party karyakartas all over the country.
