Six-month Integrated Media Studies launched

Senior journalist Pradip Phanjoubam, who participated in the programme, said that such courses are a boon for both working journalists in the field and those aspiring media students who want to learn more about media.

Imphal: The State Institute of Journalism (SIJ), Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur inaugurated its 6-month course on “Integrated Media Studies” Monday at DIPR Complex, Nithaiyapat Chuthek, here following COVID appropriate procedures.

Pradip Phanjoubam, senior journalist and author of Forum for Promotion of Social Justice (FPSJ) Review of Arts and Politics, the Imphal based news portal who was the chief guest of the inaugural function in his address said that such courses is a boon for both working journalists in the field and those aspiring media students who want to learn more about media. He stressed on the need for awareness of related laws and ethics of the media.

Heisnam Balkrisna, Director, IPR, Manipur was the functional president, while Waikhom Phajatombi Devi, Joint Director was the guest of honour.

Heisnam Balkrisna said the academic session for the year 2020 was not conducted because of restrictions imposed by the Government due to the COVID pandemic. Now that Schools and Colleges have reopened following a cabinet decision, SIJ is starting its 6-month course on “Integrated Media Studies” with COVID-19 safety procedures in place.

Tongbram Ramesh Singh, Deputy Director (Press & Publication), Seema Sanjenbam, Course Coordinator, SIJ, Tensubam Sangeeta, APO (Press), Sagolsem Snehprabha, Manager of Publication, N Bidyananda Singh,Maringmei Gaijinmeilu and other officials of DIPR attended the function.

After the inaugural function, an  orientation programme was conducted by Seema Sanjenbam informing the students about the objectives of the course and plans to be followed during the six-month short-term course.

The State Institute of Journalism is an autonomous institute imparting media education. It is fully funded by the Government of Manipur and managed by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Manipur.
