Gangtok: Chief Minister P S Tamang on Tuesday visited the Rohlu temple in South Sikkim and offered prayers for the peace and welfare of the state and its people.

‘Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Party was formed to provide a voice to the voiceless and the right to oppose atrocities then. We pledged to change the system and announced we will remove the (P K) Chamling government. Our government was formed in 2019,” said Tamang.

December 21, 2009 is commemorated as the most important and historic day by the SKM Party. It was on this day that Tamang and his associates gave the call for bringing about a political change in the Himalayan state, which was then under the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) rule with Chamling as chief minister.

“We wanted a transparent government and some relief for the public. Former MLA Bhoj Raj Rai and I worked together with some other friends and in the name of picnic at Rohlu we gathered a huge crowd. We didn’t expect government employees but they participated in the big gathering supporting the call for ‘Parivartan, Change in the system,” said Tamang, tracing the history of Rohlu Day.

He was welcomed with Jai Goley when he arrived at Rohlu Temple premises.
