Kakinada: Arrangements are in full swing for conducting of the 13th Hockey India senior Women National Hockey championships at the district sports authority stadium here from February 15 to February 26.
BM Chanakya Raj, President of Hockey Andhra Pradesh told media persons here on Monday that they were conducting the mega event under the guidance of Hockey India and Andhra Pradesh sports authority with the cooperation of Hockey Kakinada.
He said the opportunity to conduct the senior women hockey national championships was given to Hockey Andhra Pradesh with the successful conducting of the Hockey India Junior women national championships in the same stadium last year.
Hockey Andhra Pradesh general secretary G Harshavardhan said that a total of 26 teams would be participating and the matches will be held in eight pools. The semi finals will be held on February 25 and the Finals on February 26.
The umpires are coming from Hockey India. Those exhibiting talent in these championships will be selected for the International championships,’he added.
Hockey Andhra Pradesh advisor M Niranjan Reddy said that it was for the first time in the Andhra Pradesh 80 years of hockey history that such a mega event was being conducted.
Hockey Andhra Pradesh Joint secretary V Raviraju, Treasurer P. Thomas peter, district sports authority chief coach P Srinivasarao were among those attended.
