Imphal: In an unprecedented development, the Manipur government on Tuesday deployed thousands of security personnel in and around the historic Kangla Fort “in order to deny and stop the entry of armed Arambai Tenggol members at Kangla” as per an order issued by the SP, Imphal West on Tuesday.

The decision was taken given the proposed public meeting of all Meitei legislators of the Manipur Legislative Assembly called by ‘Arambai Tenggol’ at Kangla Uttra, to discuss the ongoing violence that has raged in the state since May last year.

Earlier, the Arambai Tenggol invited all the Meitei legislators to attend the meeting and further warned that anyone who stayed away from the meeting would be considered as an enemy of the Meitei community. The meeting would deliberate on what the Meitei community should do in the face of the current crisis, it said.

Taking serious note of the invitation, a Cabinet meeting was held with Chief Minister N Biren in the chair last Saturday.

Given the unfolding crisis, the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West district, announced on Tuesday the deployment of police personnel and security forces to deny and stop the entry of armed Arambai Tenggol members at Kangla.

It may be mentioned that at least 26 Meiteis have been killed and over a dozen sustained serious injuries after suspected armed Kuki militants attacked over the last 45 days alone.

On the other hand, a special team of the Union Home Ministry, led by AK Mishra, interlocutor of Naga Peace Talk, has held a meeting with the representatives of Arambai Tenggol at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP, Leishemba Sanajaoba, also the King of Manipur.

Mishra was accompanied by Mandeed Singh Tuli (Joint Director SIB, New Delhi) and Rajesh Kumble (Joint Director SIB Imphal).
