Rs 93 cr worth smuggled goods seized in Manipur

Assam Rifles seized Rs 92.37 crore worth of contraband areca nuts packed in 13,365 bags during a search operation in Namlee and Wanglee villages of Kamjong district.

Imphal: Troops on Friday seized smuggled goods worth about Rs 93 cr in two separate incidents at Churachandpur and Kamjong.

Assam Rifles seized Rs 92.37 crore worth of contraband areca nuts packed in 13,365 bags during a search operation in Namlee and Wanglee villages of Kamjong district.

The search operation was based upon credible inputs that led to the vigilant troops discovering several dumps of the contraband Areca Nuts. The seized items were handed over to the Forest Beat Officer, Nambashi.

In another incident on Thursday, Assam Rifles foiled a major cross border smuggling attempt at Tuitam Khongkhai in Churachandpur district when vigilant troops of the force seized 1600 kgs of Areca Nuts and 10231 bottles of illegal liquor valued at about Rs 65.31 lac loaded in four pickup vehicles and apprehended seven individuals. 

The apprehended individuals along with the seized items and vehicles were handed over to Sangaikot Police Station for further legal proceedings.
