New Delhi: The government on Tuesday said that a total of Rs 20,353 crores have been detected with respect to 930 India-linked entities in the Panama and Paradise Paper leaks.

“As on 01.10.2021, total undisclosed credits amounting to Rs 20,353 crores have been detected with respect to 930 India linked entities in the Panama and Paradise Paper leaks,” Minister of State (MoS) for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

The Panama and the Paradise paper leaks refer to leaked documents related to offshore entities floated mostly by wealthy and influentials from across the world to hide their income.

Asked about the names of Indians and NRIs in Pandora papers and if they have been served notices related to alleged concealment of income, the Minister said that government had taken note of the media reports naming the alleged tax evaders and launched a probe.

Chaudhary said that government had brought the Pandora paper leaks under the umbrella of Multi Agency group (MAG) for the purpose of coordinated and speedy investigation.

The MAG has been constituted under the convenorship of Chairman CBDT with Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Financial Intelligence Unit India (FIU-IND) and Foreign Tax & Tax Research division of CBDT as its members agencies. “Further, investigation is under progress,” the MoS said.
