Road accident fatalities high : Transport Dy commissioner

Presiding over the district road safety committee meeting held at the Collectorate here as a part of the road safety week celebrations, Mohan said planned action should be taken for reducing the number of road accidents by coordinated efforts.

Kakinada: Deputy Commissioner Transport department A. Mohan said on Thursday that fatalities in road accidents were on the high side which is evident as 331 people died in a total of 807 road accidents reported during ten months period from March to December last year, thus showing an average monthly deaths of 33 and 87 injuries.


Presiding over the district road safety committee meeting held at the Collectorate here as a part of the road safety week celebrations, Mohan said planned action should be taken for reducing the number of road accidents by coordinated efforts.


He said 59.12 percent of the road accidents were connected to two wheelers and overspeed, overtaking and drunk driving were factors responsible for the accidents, he added.

The Deputy commissioner further said that awareness should be created among the youth on the safety aspects.


He said as a part of the road safety week celebrations the officials of the departments of transport, police and education would conduct awareness programmes in schools and colleges.

DMHO Dr Santhiprabha, Municipal corporation chief engineer P Satyakumari, Incharge DEO Daniel Raju, Traffic CI Chaithanya Krishna , RTO P V Saiprasad were among those attended.
