Agartala: The terminated teachers of 10,323 groups who had lost their job following the decision of the high court of Tripura in 2014, on Wednesday announced to re-join the service to their respective schools from Friday claiming the high court order didn’t sack them en masse rather it was misinterpreted by a group of officers.

Addressing the media Biswajit Banik, a teacher among the 10, 323, alleged that they had filed a petition in the Supreme Court where it was clearly mentioned that they were not sacked as per the court order. The high court had scrapped the job whose service was challenged by a group of deprived aspirants.

“We will join our schools on August 12 next as through an RTI in Supreme Court we got to know that we didn’t lose our job, neither the government has sacked us. In the RTI response, it was mentioned that we were not the party of the case, hence en masse losing of service is not valid,” Banik claimed.

The worst possible miscarriage of justice had been perpetrated on them because as per the high court order on May 7, 2014, only 57 teachers lost their job and it was upheld by the Supreme Court; no individual termination notice was issued by the education department but all 10,323 teachers were terminated enmass.

From the first day when the high court passed the order, a group of bureaucrats and some vested interest sections have been misguiding the cabinet and the whole administration. Despite repeated appeals to issue termination letters individually to 10,323 teachers referring to the high court order, the department avoided it because they knew the mistakes were done by the government, he alleged.

The Supreme Court response clearly stated that only those whose recruitment was challenged and subsequently made a party in the case, lost the job but not all, Banik said and added, “We have been trying to hold a dialogue with Director of Education, she is not allowing us. So, the only option we have is to submit the apex court’s clarification to our respected school principals and we shall do it.”

The retrenched teachers alleged that nowhere in the country except for Tripura people were pushed out after getting into a job without securing their future. Had there been any mistake, it was done by the officers, not by any candidate and those officers should get punishment, they argued.

As many as 135 teachers of the retrenched group died while among them many died by committing suicide as they could not pay the loan money which they had taken from different banks and the family members have not been getting a square meal.
