New Delhi: Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and L Murugan on Friday took oath as members of the Rajya Sabha.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu administered oath to both the newly-elected members in his chamber at Parliament House.

Sonowal, who holds the Ports, Shipping and Waterways portfolio, and Murugan, Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, were elected unopposed to the Upper House from Assam and Madhya Pradesh respectively in the recently concluded by-elections.

“Took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha from Assam. I pledge to uphold the dignity of the august House and serve the aspirations of the people,” Sonowal wrote in a social media post.

Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukthar was also present on the occasion.
