PMGSY: Meghalaya is one of the best-performing states

Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said that Meghalaya is one of the best-performing states in Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Inaugurating several road infrastructure projects in East Garo Hills district, the Chief Minister thanked the incumbent Lok Sabha member from Tura parliamentary constituency, Agatha K Sangma, for facilitating the roads which are under the PMGSY scheme.

The new road infrastructure projects that were inaugurated include L051-Nengmandalgre to Daribokgre (Mandalgre) road 35 kms, L042 Cherangre to Sisobibra (Nengmandalgre to Gitokgre) of 7.820 kms, Long Span Bridge of 51.68 metres over river Rongon and long span bridge of 51.68 metres over river Rongre.

Sangma said that the roads that were inaugurated are very important for the development of the region.

“Roads are very crucial for the development of any place as without roads no development can take place,” he said.

The CM also highlighted the five point Agenda of the government. “We have a five point agenda that is ‘Road for All’, ‘Power for All’, ‘Housing for All’, ‘Information for All’ and ‘Water for All’. We are working on a saturation model so that we would like to achieve in the next few years”.

He also informed that for 2023-24 under the PMAY ,Rs 1600 crore has been sanctioned for 1500 houses and he thanked the MP for facilitating the same.

Sangma also enlightened the gathering about the different alternative livelihood and employment programs for the youth.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the roads will be a blessing for economic, health, educational and day-to-day activities for the people of the surrounding villages and stated that the government is ensuring that development reaches every village.

Tynsong said that under PMGSY, 1200 kms of road length will be developed across the state and solicited the cooperation of the village chiefs ‘nokmas’, ‘sordars’ and land owners for land acquisition for development of roads i n the larger interest and benefit of the people of the state.

The total sanction cost for Long Span Bridge over Rongre River Jakopgre to Nengmandalgre Road is Rs 176.969 lakh and for Long Span Brodge over Rongon river Jakopgre to Nengmandal Road is Rs 151.140 lakh, an official said.
