PM Modi to inaugurate projects worth Rs 8,500 crore in Assam

Guwahati: Assam is set to receive several new projects worth almost Rs 8,500 crore from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

These include a new AIIMS hospital, four other hospitals, a methanol plant, and a bridge over the Brahmaputra.

The projects will be inaugurated on April 14 in Guwahati through both physical and virtual means. The AIIMS hospital, which has 750 beds and 100 MBBS seats, is already 85 pc complete and is being constructed by the Centre at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate three medical colleges constructed by the state government in Nalbari, Nagaon, and Kokrajhar. The state government and IIT Guwahati will jointly develop a research hospital at an initial investment of Rs 600 crore.

Modi will virtually distribute health cards to 1.1 crore people, offering them a health cover of Rs 5 lakh per year.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate a methanol plant with 500 tonnes per day capacity, beautification work of the Rang Ghar, and lay the foundation stone for the Palasbari-Sualkuchi bridge over Brahmaputra. The day will conclude with a record-breaking Bihu dance performance.
