Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in the city was attacked with petrol bombs by some unidentified miscreants in the wee hours of Thursday.
Police sources said, some unidentified persons, who came in motorbikes, hurled petrol bombs at the entrance of the BJP office “Kamalalayam” at T. Nagar area in the city and fled the scene. No one was injured in the attack, which took place to condemn BJP’s opposition to the NEET exemption for Tamil Nadu. No major damage was also reported.
The attack at the BJP office, which was guarded by the police round-the-clock, took place around 0130 hrs.
BJP State Unit President K. Annamalai inspected the place where the bombs were hurled. Party State General Secretary Karu Nagarajan lodged a complaint with the Chennai city Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal and a case was registered.
Police personnel arrested on suspect based on the CCTV footages collected from the area. The arrested person was identified as Vinodh, who has several criminal cases against him. Vinodh had told the police that he had hurled the bombs over the NEET issue.Â
