Guwahati: A Padma awardee of Assam, charged under POSCO act for sexually abusing a minor girl he was fostering, has obtained an interim anticipatory bail from Gauhati High Court to evade arrest.
The vacation bench of Justice Arun Dev Choudhury granted anticipatory bail to the accused, arguing that the FIR was filed to malign his reputation and the complaint did not have any specific statement of the victim.
As per the bail order by Justice Arun Dev Choudhury, the alleged offence by the accused was “serious in nature”. According to reports, the case is considered to be sub-judice and further investigations are
underway.
The victim is currently under police protection and has been accommodated in a children’s home.As quoted in reports, the child was under the foster care of the accused and was repeatedly subjected to rape for over a year. It also mentioned that the preliminary medical examinations supported the allegations.
The FIR further states that the victim was placed under the care of the accused for a period of one year after which the child’s foster care deed has to be renewed. However, the accused did not renew the deed nor did he place the child before the CWC when the deed expired.
